Description
This 542 hectare reserve, a previous cattle ranching estate, is now owned by Fundación Naturaleza y Hombre, FNYH, who runs this Spain’s first private nature reserve.
A Rewilding Europe pilot project, the Campanarios de Azaba Biological Reserve is situated in the southwest of Salamanca Province, bordered by Portugal to the west. The landscape is dominated by holm oak dehesas, alternated by scrubland areas, cereal crop and gallery forests. Campanarios de Azaba is also included in the Natural 2000 Network as SCI (Site of Community Interest) and SPA (Special Protected Area) as it is an important habitat for the Black Stork.
