Breed: Grivette
Species: Sheep
Country: France
Description: The breed is noted for its ability to breed out of season. Due to its maternal behaviour, it is principally used for meat production, and 60% of ewes are pure-bred. It is often white, sometimes black or brown, with colour patches on the head and legs. Both sexes are hornless. They have medium fleece coverage, with the legs free from fleece. The mature rams weigh 100kg, and the ewes weigh 65kg.
History: The Grivette is derived from a native breed of Bas Dauphine, with approximately a 5% annual input from the Rava French breed between 1960, when genealogical records were started, and 1981.
